Why Watch This

The Kid with a Bike offers a raw, unflinching portrait of a teenage boy’s search for belonging after being abandoned by his father, anchored by Thomas Doret’s magnetic, naturalistic performance. The Dardenne brothers’ minimalist style lets every glance and silence speak louder than dialogue.

The CinePearl Take

Thomas Doret delivers a breakout performance, embodying the restless energy and vulnerability of a boy on the brink of adulthood. The directors’ trademark handheld camera captures the streets of Liège with a gritty intimacy that heightens the film’s emotional stakes. While the pacing is deliberately slow, it rewards patience with moments of profound catharsis, especially in the climactic confrontation between the boy and his estranged father.
