The CinemaWorld Take

Director Xavier Dolan's Mommy is a masterclass in building tension and exploring the complexities of the human condition, with a standout performance from Anne Dorval as the beleaguered mother. The film's use of a 1:1 aspect ratio adds to the sense of claustrophobia and intensity, making the viewer feel like they're experiencing the characters' struggles firsthand. The pacing is well-balanced, shifting seamlessly between moments of tenderness and explosive outbursts of violence. Overall, Mommy is a powerful and unflinching drama that will leave viewers moved and unsettled.
