The CinePearl Take
The film’s understated lead, a non‑professional actor playing a grieving farmer, delivers a raw performance that anchors the story’s emotional core. Director Jan van der Meer balances stark realism with poetic interludes, letting the pacing breathe without sacrificing tension. Themes of loss, intergenerational duty, and the gentle stubbornness of donkeys intertwine to create a hauntingly hopeful tone. Though the runtime feels a touch long, the visual storytelling rewards patience.
