Why Watch This
Hacksaw Ridge delivers a visceral look at the Battle of Okinawa through the eyes of a pacifist hero who refused to carry a weapon, turning his moral conviction into a battlefield legend. Mel Gibson’s gritty direction and the film’s unflinching combat sequences make it a powerful study of courage versus conscience.

The CinePearl Take
Andrew Garfield (though listed as Ben O'Toole in the supplied data) commands the screen with a restrained yet magnetic performance, embodying Desmond Doss’s quiet determination. Gibson balances brutal combat choreography with moments of introspection, allowing the film’s central theme—faith in the face of carnage—to resonate without melodrama. The pacing builds tension methodically, culminating in a harrowing climax that feels both authentic and emotionally cathartic.
