The CinePearl Take
Louis Jourdan delivers a cool, calculating performance as the accused, while Gregory Peck’s earnest prosecutor provides a moral counterpoint that keeps the audience emotionally invested. Hitchcock’s pacing is deliberate, letting the courtroom’s procedural details build a slow‑burn tension that erupts in a striking climax. The film’s exploration of power, loyalty, and forbidden love feels surprisingly modern, even if some of the dialogue feels stage‑bound.
