The CinePearl Take
De Bont's visual style is crisp, turning the empty corridors of Hill House into a character of its own, though the script sometimes leans on genre clichés. Liam Neeson brings a steely, grounded presence that anchors the film’s escalating terror, while Marian Seldes adds a chilling gravitas as the house’s former caretaker. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the dread to build slowly before the climactic reveal, making the final showdown feel earned.
