Why Watch This

Jennifer Westfeldt’s “Friends with Kids” offers a fresh, slightly cynical look at the modern dilemma of balancing parenthood with romance, delivering laughs and honest moments in equal measure. The ensemble’s chemistry, especially Jon Hamm’s dry charm and Maya Rudolph’s sharp wit, makes the everyday feel surprisingly cinematic.

Best For

Rom‑com lovers, Couples night, Indie‑film fans, Smart‑dialogue seekers, Fans of Jon Hamm, Fans of Maya Rudolph

The CinePearl Take

Westfeldt’s script shines when it leans into the awkwardness of adult friendships turning into something more, and the pacing never drags despite its 90‑minute runtime. Jon Hamm delivers a surprisingly nuanced performance, grounding the film’s more off‑beat humor. Maya Rudolph steals every scene she’s in, turning what could have been a side note into a highlight of the movie. The film’s central theme—questioning the “right” time to have kids—resonates without feeling preachy.
